Lorca Jolene

Lorca Jolene is a self-taught Chicago-based artist who has been collaging strange and uncanny creatures for five years. Characters and bodies appear in their mixed media work that depict ambivalence and in-betweenness as something whole and powerful rather than defective or toxic. Their art is deeply influenced by their own experiences of communicating and finding company within liminality as a queer and neuro-atypical person, as well as their activist and scholarly work with mental illness, psychological trauma, disability, and marginalized gender and sexual identities. Other sources of inspiration for them are Dave McKean, Ray Bradbury, Alexander McQueen, Norse and Russian mythology, film noir, and medical illustration.
